Single Equality Scheme
The council has in place a Single Equality Scheme (120 KB PDF) Opens in a new window which supports the principle of equal opportunities in the provision of our services to the community and in relation to employment. We oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination on the grounds of race, disability, gender, religion/belief, age, sexual orientation, marital/civil partnership status, gender re-assignment, and pregnancy and maternity.
Specifically in relation to disability, the employment provisions of the Equality Act 2010 places a clear obligation on the council not to discriminate against people with disabilities at any stage of the recruitment and selection process. The council has adopted a Guaranteed Job Interview Scheme (15 KB PDF) Opens in a new window which guarantees an interview to any applicant who has, or considers that they have, a disability providing that they meet the essential criteria for the job.
