Gender Equality Scheme

New gender equality legislation requires Angus Council to produce a Gender Equality Scheme by 29 June 2007. This legislation places a statutory general duty on all public bodies to actively promote gender equality by eliminating unlawful discrimination and harassment against men, women and transsexual people. It also requires us to promote equality of opportunity in the delivery of our services, and in the workplace, by establishing mechanisms for consultation, monitoring and an action plan. The new duties will import the concept of mainstreaming gender issues into our decision-making processes and activities. Angus Council is also required to report against the scheme annually and review it every three years.

Any views or comments regarding the Scheme and its progress reports are welcome. Please forward your views to Equalities@angus.gov.uk, telephone 01307 476058.
