Report Benefit Fraud

Benefit fraud costs you money. If you think that someone has made a dishonest claim for Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit, please tell us.

The more information you can provide the better our investigations will be. This means it is more likely we will be able to determine if an act of fraud has been carried out.

Any information you give will be treated in the strictest confidence and you do not even have to tell us your name.

We are committed to ensuring the maximum amount of housing and council tax benefit is claimed by our customers in Angus Council, but we also have a duty to ensure that benefit is not paid out for fraudulent claims.

All instances of benefit fraud identified by the Council are considered for referral to the Procurator Fiscal or other sanction action in accordance with the Council’s Benefit Fraud - Prosecution and Sanction Policy (32 KB PDF) Opens in a new window Opens in a new window. In addition to receiving a sanction the fraudster remains liable to repay the full amount of the benefit overpaid to them and may have their entitlement to benefit payments restricted in the future.
