Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I find out if my property is in a conservation area?
A. The Angus Local Plan Review (2009) contains information including maps showing conservation area boundaries but in some cases you may require to contact the conservation team with the property address for confirmation (particularly if it is close the conservation area boundary).
Q. How do I find out if my property is listed?
A. Please contact the conservation team with the property address. Sometimes, due to the location of the property it may be necessary for you to submit a map indicating the property.
Q. Is there funding available to assist with repairs to my listed building?
A. As a general rule, most general maintenance and repair is not eligible for grant funding. General maintenance and repair is required as an ongoing process regardless of the building or whether it is listed. Exception lies in where it is felt that there is significant merit in ensuring that work is carried out due to the buildings significance or the type of work required. More information is available by contacting the Conservation Team.
Q. Who do I contact to find out more about what implications there are to owning a listed building?
A. You can contact the conservation team and advice is also given within the Development Standards Advice Notes. In general terms there are fewer implications than the public perceives. More information can also be found by contacting Historic Scotland.
Q. I want to carry out alterations/extension to my listed building, who do I contact?
A. In the first instance you are advised to contact the Development Standards Officer for your area. They are responsible for considering both a planning and listed building application. If required, they will in turn contact the Conservation Team to request comment or guidance on a proposal affecting a listed building or a conservation area.
