Angus Draft Core Paths Plan

Angus Council has prepared a draft Core Paths Plan for the Council area, to meet the requirements of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. It was issued for formal consultation for a twelve week period which extended from 25 April 2008 to 18 July 2008. It does not cover the part of Angus which is within the Cairngorms National Park; a separate plan is being prepared by the National Park Authority.

The consultation period has now ended.

Copies of objections and comments can be viewed using the preceding link. They are also available for inspection at County Buildings, Market Street, Forfar.

The Council's response to comments and objections was approved by Infrastructure Services Committee on 21 April 2009, see report 345/09 (200 KB PDF).

Unwithdrawn objections have now been referred to Scottish Ministers, who will arrange for a Local Inquiry to be held. The Code of Practice for local inquiries is available on the Scottish Government website.

The Plan cannot be adopted until any objections are resolved. Where objections remain unresolved a Local Inquiry may be organised by the Scottish Government to resolve matters.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

The Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005 requires that a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) be carried out to assess the environmental impact of strategies or plans developed by the public sector. The Council has carried out an SEA for the Core Paths Plan, taking into account aspects of the environment including impacts on water, biodiversity, cultural heritage, landscape and human health. Consultation on the SEA Environmental Report was undertaken at the same time as consultation on the Draft Core Paths Plan.

The consultation period for the SEA has now ended. The following documents are available for reference only.
