Arbroath Lifeboat Station, Arbroath
Sunday 18th September 2011
An opportunity to visit the lifeboat station and see how it works.

1803 Arbroath lifeboat station was established and is one of the oldest in Scotland. The first lifeboat was built by Henry Greathead who, in 1789, had built the original, which was the first boat to be designed and built for the purpose of saving life from shipwreck. In 1865 the station was taken over by the RNLI and a new boathouse was built at East Grimsby. Continued improvements have been made over the years resulting in the award-winning service and lifeboat you see today.
2005 A new D class Inshore Boat 1 (IB1) was placed on service on 23 April.
