An opportunity to visit the the new Seaview Primary School in Monifieth.
This new state of the art building designed by Angus Council which opened to pupils in August 2009 has recently been recognised with a prestigious bronze award in the Promoting Sustainability category in the COSLA Excellence Awards 2011 which is the latest accolade for the school. The awards acknowledge projects which are well planned, customer focused, efficient and creative.
Increased environmental standards were incorporated and the pupils, staff all had input to the design. The school has a biomass boiler, solar panels to supplement water heating, has a low profile to avoid shadowing neighbouring buildings, has a high level of air tightness, uses a breathing wall, recycled aluminium, uses low VOCs paint and solvents, has increased insulation, uses sun pipes for interior lighting and relies only on day lighting for the most part, the grounds although removing part of the millennium forest have replaced the planting plus another 25%.
The school also obtained the first A-rated Energy Performance Certificate in an Angus Council building; and the Carbon Trust, Low Carbon Building Award 2010. In addition, the Scottish Government has cited the school as an excellent example of energy efficiency in the public sector.

From the roundabout at Dobbies Garden Centre on the A92 travel south towards Monifieth, on Victoria Street – Seaview PS is located on the right, or from town centre travel north on North Union Street, turn right at the junction on Hill Street, then immediate left. Seaview PS is located on the left.
