City of Brechin & District Community Council

A petition signed by 30 local residents in the City of Brechin & District Community Council area has been received requesting Angus Council to establish a community council. In accordance with Section 52(7) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 the arrangements for the conduct of the poll are noted below.

Monday 14 November 2011 (not later than 4pm)	Final date for the withdrawal of nominations
Not later than Friday 18 November 2011	Issue letters to candidates if uncontested confirming their election and publication of the Notice of Uncontested Election
Friday 18 November 2011	Publication of the Notice of Poll (if contested)
Polling will commence on Monday 5 December 2011	Poll (if contested)
Monday 12 December 2011	Counting of Votes Cast (if contested)

Nominations:

If you wish to stand for election as a member of the City of Brechin & District Community Council you must:-

Be 16 years of age or over;
Reside in the community council area (3.5 MB PDF) Opens in a new window ; and
Be named on the electoral register for the area.

A nomination paper must be completed and lodged by prospective candidates with the Returning Officer (Community Council Elections), Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar not later than 4.00pm on Monday 7 November 2011.

All candidates must submit a personal statement of not more than 100 words on the form provided along with their nomination paper in support of their candidacy. A nomination paper will not be considered valid until such time as a personal statement has been received.

Candidates are requested to submit their personal statements, preferably with their nomination paper, but in any event not later than 4.00pm on Monday 7 November 2011.
