Help and advice for the community
Support centres
A support centre is a building or part of a building, set aside from its normal function by the council to temporarily meet the needs of:
- evacuees, or
- friends or relatives of an evacuee
If you have been involved in an emergency or incident, depending on the nature of the incident, you may initially be taken by the police to a place of safety where if necessary transport will be provided to take you to a support centre.
The type of premises usually used for support centres in Angus are schools, sports and leisure facilities.
Each support centre will be managed by the council, and key council services including housing and social work will be represented. Voluntary organisations will also assist and other agencies will be brought in to provide specialist services if required.
The following will be provided:
- Information
- Food
- First aid
- Shelter
- Help and advice
- Refreshments
- Washing facilities
- Temporary accommodation (if required, depending on type of support centre)
- Access to TV, radio, phones
- Support centre leaflet.
