MS625/2/7 Receipt from Isaac Cookson, Whitehill Furnace, Chester-Le-Street.

Isaac Cookson receipt

Patrick Wilson had extensive mercantile interests in Brechin. He was admitted as a burgess in Brechin in 1775 but it was not until 1785 that he was allowed to join the Guildry of merchants. His business interests ranged from selling stationery, wall paper, books, toys, drugs, glassware & ironmongery.

He purchased some ironmongery items from Isaac Cookson in Chester-le Street. [Cookson’s receipt is a little gem as it contains a fine engraving illustrating the furnace in action.] Wilson purchased a number of mold boards, nails, files & screws from Cookson. The merchandise was generally transported by ship to Montrose.
