Monifieth’s History - Resources For Researchers
Introduction
There are many resources available for the study of Monifieth's past. Some are held in Monifieth Library while many others are housed in Angus Archives at Restenneth Priory.
Genealogy sources
Monifieth Library holds a good range of genealogical sources such as Old Parish Registers and the census (1841-1901) on microfilm plus the International Genealogical Index on microfiche. Angus Archives holds most of these also.
Newspapers
Monifieth only holds newspapers from 1992 to date. Carnoustie Library holds the Guide and Gazette which contains information about Monifieth.
Valuation Rolls
Monifieth holds Valuation Rolls for 1894 onwards. Angus Archives also holds a collection of Valuation rolls for the county and burghs.
Maps
Monifieth Library holds a small collection of maps, mainly 20th century Ordnance Survey maps.
Directories
Monifieth Library holds Dundee Directories (incorporating Monifieth) for 1929-1950.

Monifieth Photograph Collection
Angus Archives holds a growing collection of images of Monifieth people, places and events from the late 19th century to more recently. Photographic images include street views, industry, Provosts, historic buildings, and local characters. Images of Monifieth people included in local history publications are also accessible through the Image Index.
New additions to the photographic collection are always welcome.
