Angus Archives will be at the following events. Come along and say hi!

Genealogy Days - every Thursdays and Fridays
Genealogy taster Sessions every Thursday and Friday at Angus Archives. These short sessions are an ideal way to get started in ScotlandsPeople or Deceased Online. Afterwards, take some time to explore the unique resources for family and local history that the archive has to offer.

Kenneth M Hay Day at Montrose Museum looking back at 50 years of images of Montrose from the late 20th century. Drop in any time and stay as little or as long as you want.

Tartan Day at Angus Archives
Drop into Angus Archives as part of the Tartan Day celebrations for another round of Beyond ScotlandsPeople taster sessions. During this event, members of staff will conduct tutorials highlighting genealogical sources that cannot be found anywhere else, such as the school and poor relief records, and legal papers. Get up close and personal with the stories in these records and find out how they can help enrich your family history.
Angus Archives, 10am -12 pm. Free but must be booked in advance.

Tartan Week event
Arbroath Abbey Kirkyard walk. If you are fascinated by old gravestones and want to learn how to understand the different symbols, why not enjoy a stroll around the Abbey kirkyard with Fiona Scharlau and Robert Duncan. Meet in the Abbey gift shop shortly before 10am. Please wear comfortable shoes.
Arbroath Abbey 10am – 12pm. Free.

Celebrating the history of the Highland Games
Gateway to the Glens Museum Kirriemuir - Free admission
Every year the very best pipers, dancers and athletes compete at Highland gatherings and games in many an Angus town. This exhibition looks back at the history of the games with a display of highland dancing costumes, photographs and memorabilia. Exhibition for Bon Fest 2014
An exhibition in celebration of the life of Rock and Roll Legend Bon Scott
Gateway to the Glens Museum Kirriemuir - Free admission
Born in Kirriemuir in 1946 Bon Scott became a Rock & Roll Legend in the band AC/DC, emigrating to Melbourne, Australia when only 6 years old the exhibition has early photographs and information about his family together with many rare music collectables. (A smaller permanent display is shown within the museum all year round.) Exhibition is free of charge, opening times Tuesday to Saturday 10 – 5. WWI Centenary commemoration - An exhibition of Kirrie’s fallen men
Gateway to the Glens Museum Kirriemuir - Free admission
Beginning a series of exhibitions over the 4 year centenary of WWI this exhibition looks at the families of the young men who fought and fell, it also includes a display from the Kirriemuir Heritage Trust.

‘Tales from the Angus Glens’ by Gordon Sneddon
Gateway to the Glens Museum Kirriemuir and part of the 2014 Angus Glens Walking Festival
Booking required VIA THE ANGUS WALKING FESTIVAL WEBSITE, £3 per head
Join us at the Gateway to the Glens Museum for an illustrated talk by local hill walker Gordon Snedden. Gordon has been involved with the Angus Glens Hill walking festival and the Blairgowrie & East Perthshire Walking festival working as a guide since 2002. The talk starts at 7.30pm and there will be an opportunity to view the exhibitions at the museum after the event.

Gateway to the Glens Museum Kirriemuir - Free admission, no booking required
Visit the museum during June to design your own Bonfest 2014 poster, drop in and create your own poster at the Museum’s upstairs craft area or bring your completed poster in to us. Open to all ages the posters will be displayed in the Museum during August’s Bonfest event and the winning entry used for the exhibition.
