What’s new in Angus Archives

Calling all photographers!

Amateur photographers are being urged to take part in a new competition launched in support of the Commonwealth Games. The competition “Capture the Spirit of Angus" is an opportunity for the people of Angus to create a local cultural and historical legacy to celebrate the Commonwealth Games 2014 and to showcase the Angus to the rest of the world. Finalists will be invited to an exhibition of the photographs in Brechin Town House Museum Gallery where the winners will be announced. This exhibition will then go on a tour of Angus throughout 2015 after which time entries will be retained in our Angus Photographic Collection held within Angus Archives.

New donations

New donations of documents, ephemera, photographs (prints or digital) are always welcome. In the last couple of weeks we have been delighted to receive a collection relating to the Craigie, Smith and Low families from the Inverkeilor area, digital images of boy drummer William McCallum from Brechin and the Gray family from Montrose. All three collections have a strong World War One connection and make wonderful additions to our growing War Stories Collections.

If you have any material you would like to donate or let us copy, please contact us at angus.archives@angus.gov.uk, phone us on 01307 468644 or contact us through our Facebook page www.facebook.com/angusarchives
