Angus Museums
Cultural Services maintains seven museums in Arbroath, Brechin, Forfar Kirriemuir and Montrose. Each has a unique flavour, reflecting the different characters of the burgh towns of Angus.
Arbroath is strong on fishing heritage and also has the Bell Rock lighthouse room, Montrose is rich in maritime and social history, Forfar features many magnificent Pictish stones, Brechin reflects its past as a cathedral city and Kirriemuir acts as a gateway to the Angus Glens. Material on other areas of Angus which do not currently have a museum are also actively collected and displayed whenever possible.
All the museums collect objects and photographs relating to any aspect of life or work in Angus. Behind the scenes there is a wealth of local history, archaeology, natural history and geology and art resources to help all kinds of enquirers from school projects to PhD theses! Activities for children, family groups and adults are arranged regularly such as workshops, walks, concerts, lectures and dramatic re-enactments.
