North East Challenge Cup 2011
The tournament hosted at the Saltire Leisure Centre, Arbroath on Sunday 27th November was extremely well attended with 270 entrants from all over Scotland from Inverness in the North, Leith in the East and Paisley in the West, and various places in between.
Various divisions for both male and female competitors covering age groups from 4 years old to over 35 years. Within each division there was various categories contested:
- Patterns (fundemental movements to a fixed sequence against an imaginery opponent),
- Free Sparring (combat against an opponent of similar rank, age & weight (height for juniors)),
- Power Test (breaking boards, points awarded for the number of boards broken),
- Special Technique (ability to kick targets at height using jumping/spinning kicks).
It was a long but enjoyable day with many local students securing podium positions, the NTA have students competing who recently represented Scotland in the World Championships in New Zealand and European Championships in Bratislava, so standards were very high.
