Angus Local Housing Strategy (LHS) 2012-2017

The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001, places a statutory duty on Local Authorities to prepare and submit to Ministers a Local Housing Strategy (LHS) supported by a housing need and demand assessment. The local housing strategy provides the strategic direction to tackle housing need and demand and to inform future investment in housing across Angus.

In June 2008, the Scottish Government and COSLA issued joint guidance setting out a requirement for the new LHS to be part of a broader package of policy changes included in Firm Foundations, and Scottish Planning Policy 3: Planning for Housing, aiming to increase housing supply across all tenures.

The Angus Housing Need and Demand Assessment (HNDA) was successfully completed in 2010 having been appraised and signed off as 'Robust and Credible' by the Scottish Government. Core outputs from the HNDA have informed the development of the LHS, Strategic Development Plan; Tay Plan, and will help to inform the Local Development Plan for Angus this year.
