Angus Orchards Project 2009/2012

In 2009 Angus Council launched the Angus Orchards Project. This is a three phase project that has secured funding from SEEDCORN - a Forestry Commission grant and funding from Angus Environmental Trust. It is involving Angus School children and Angus Council Countryside Rangers in the planting of 333 fruit trees, creating more than 100 orchards across Angus.

This project will involve many Apple varieties of traditional and local provenance with Cherry and Walnut for the bigger spaces.

Not only will there be significant educational and physical health benefits for the participating people in this project, there will be a lasting legacy of healthy eating for future pupils and the local wildlife will get a bit too!

Update

The woodlands are now producing hazel nuts, sloes, rowan berries, coppice hazel rods, and coppice willow for outdoor living sculpture work, hurdles, play tunnels and domes.
