Aims
Angus Council aims to provide a quality music service which will raise attainment by enabling pupils to achieve their full musical potential:
- by providing quality tuition
- by enriching the cultural and musical life of schools through ensembles, bands and orchestras and choirs
- by ensuring equal opportunity to access to as many pupils as time and resources allow
- by fostering life-long skills which can serve the wider community
- by instrumental instructors actively promoting music for as many youngsters in Angus as possible
About the Service
Angus employs around twenty-six full and part-time instrumental teachers (18.8FTE) who work in primary and secondary schools.
The teachers prepare pupils for SQA exams, external music exams, festivals, national youth orchestras (Scottish and British) and auditions for university and conservatoires of music all over the UK. Much of their work also directs pupils towards Angus bands and orchestras. Tutors also support their pupils in school concerts and competitions.
The instrumental team supports their pupils in negotiating the ups and downs of being a musician; to celebrate success and to be there when success has been illusive.
Lessons are once a week and are usually 25-35 minutes depending on numbers. Where possible, children sitting more advanced exams receive more time.
