Green For Go Brechin
YOUNG people in Brechin have shown their green credentials and received national recognition.
The prestigious Green Apple Award has been awarded in recognition of work carried out by schools in the area.
The schools followed up work done as part of the Brechin Eco-Foot print - a method of determining an individual's impact on the environment - which was also recognised with an award from the Green Organisation in 2003.
Aberlemno and Andover Primary Schools were asked by Angus Council to produce a video/DVD to further explain environmental issues within the concept of the ecological footprint.
In addition, two senior pupils from Brechin High School worked with a member of staff from the Angus Digital Media Centre to research the location of farm shops in Angus and produce the results on a digital map.
And their work has been recognised with a Green Apple Gold Award for Scottish Local Authorities - the second year in a row that Angus Council has received this award.
Meeting the pupils to congratulate them on their success, Angus Council's Infrastructure Services Convener David Selfridge said: "These pioneering projects have helped raise awareness of sustainable development within the community of Angus and this unique initiative has been recognised by others throughout the UK. Winning a Green Apple Award has raised the profile of Angus Council's efforts towards achieving sustainable development as this award has international recognition."
