New Child Protection Legislation Meeting
Angus Council and Angus Sports Council have joined forces to give local voluntary clubs information on new child protection legislation.
Meetings have been organised to look at the issues surrounding the new Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003 and what it means for local volunteers.
This new legislation makes it mandatory for all voluntary groups and clubs to ensure anyone from their organisation is vetted prior to working with children.
All organisations working with children, including volunteer organisations, will commit an offence and be liable to prosecution if they do not comply with this new legislation.
The definition of a child in the legislation is a person under the age of 18.
The two information evenings will include a presentation from Fiona Coupe, child protection in sport project worker, (Children 1st) regarding the new legislation followed by a presentation detailing forthcoming council changes in letting procedures.
Finally there will also be information on what the Angus Club Excellence Awards are and how this will support organisations with these changes.
The meetings will take place on Tuesday 22 February in the Reid Hall, Forfar and Friday 25 February at Angus College Auditorium, Keptie Road, Arbroath, both run from 6.30pm to 9pm.
Both of these venues have access for people with disabilities.
For further information and to book a place at one of these information evenings please contact Claire Robertson, Angus Council club development officer, on (01307) 475366 or email robertsonca@angus.gov.uk.
The events are supported by the Big Lottery Fund.
