When Should I Enrol My Child for School?
The next school session begins on TUESDAY 14 AUGUST 2007. Parents whose children will be five on or before this date must enrol their children to start school by MONDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2007.
What Happens If My Child is Five Between 15 August 2007 and 28 February 2008?
Your child is eligible to start school on TUESDAY 14 AUGUST 2007 but you may wish to delay your child's entry to school if you think that he/she is not ready to start. You should discuss this as soon as possible with staff at your child's Pre-School Provider who will be able to help you make the best decision.
How Do I Enrol My Child for Primary School?
Parents should contact staff at the appropriate local primary school between now and MONDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2007 who will tell you their arrangements for enrolment. If you are enrolling at St Margaret's RC or St Thomas RC Primary schools and your child has been baptised, you should also take with you the baptismal certificate.
What Happens If I Want to Send My Child to a Primary School Outside my Local Delineated Area?
Although it is usual for children to attend their local delineated area school, parents have the right to request another school by making a placing request.
What about Transferring to Secondary School?
Children who are transferring to secondary school on TUESDAY 14 AUGUST 2007 will be advised of their new school by letter prior to the Christmas Holidays. Parents can decide to request another secondary school. Placing Requests must be made by MONDAY 12 MARCH 2007.
How are Placing Requests Dealt With?
The Council has a duty to grant placing request wherever possible, provided there are places at the school you choose. Requests for entering either primary or secondary school should be made on the appropriate form by MONDAY 12 MARCH 2007. Any requests made after this date will still be considered but it is possible that places in certain schools may no longer be available.
