Banking on Tayside's future businesspeople

An innovative regional partnership agreement aimed at supporting and promoting a programme to encourage the development of enterprising skills and attitudes in young people has been signed in Angus.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Commercial Banking, Tayside, and Angus, Dundee City and Perth & Kinross councils came together on Thursday (16 March) to officially sign the agreement, as well as celebrate RBS Commercial Banking, Tayside's commitment to support enterprise in education, with pupils and staff representatives from Monifieth High School - some of the very people that will benefit from the partnership.

The partnership supports the Scottish Executive's 'Determined to Succeed' strategy for enterprise in education, which aims to help all young people develop their own strengths and talents and the skills, attitudes and knowledge to become more successful and realise their full potential, both in work and in life.

Under the agreement, RBS Commercial Banking, Tayside will support schools within each of the three local education authorities in a number of areas such as mock interviews, career conventions and other in-school projects, helping to make learning more real and more relevant for Tayside pupils, as well as ensuring that they have access to the right skills for working in - and building new - businesses and enterprises.

Signing the document on behalf of the RBS, Andy Kilgour, Director of Commercial Banking in Tayside, said: "RBS is delighted to have signed this regional Partnership Agreement and is pleased to be able to provide practical support to young people as they prepare to leave school. RBS is committed to investing in local communities and we welcome the opportunity to work with the local councils to deliver this programme."

Commenting on the partnership, Lesley Watson, Business Liaison Officer with Angus Council Education Department said: "We are delighted to have exchanged a formal Enterprise in Education Partnership Agreement with RBS Commercial Banking, Tayside. We welcome their support, commitment and professional assistance in progressing and fulfilling the Determined to Succeed strategy in Tayside. They will unquestionably bring added value to enterprise in education within our schools, positively affecting the future of our young people by enabling them to become the successful employees, employers and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. We, as well as our schools, look forward to working together with them."

RBS Commercial Banking, Tayside joins a growing number of business in the Tayside area, and nationally, who are involved in supporting Enterprise in Education in a variety of different ways.
