Refurbished Southesk Officially Opens

The new look Southesk Primary School was officially opened today (10am Friday 7 December).

The £730,000 project has created a new multipurpose hall with kitchen, changing rooms and storage, which links directly with the rest of the school.

The new layout has seen a big improvement for pupils and staff who were using facilities which were detached from the main school building.

A courtyard area has also been created providing a perfect focus for Southesk’s Eco Schools initiative.

As part of the design process the extension was located behind the main school to avoid any visual conflict with the stone frontage of this listed building.

Welcoming this latest improvement to the Angus schools estate, Education Convener Peter Nield said: “This investment at Southesk has provided an attractive and stimulating environment for both pupils and staff and is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improve our school buildings.”

Head teacher Pamela Walker added: “We are confident that this investment in our building will allow our pupils to make the most of all opportunities offered to them to allow them to be responsible citizens in our ever changing world.”

The official opening of the school was carried out by George Norrie, who retired in May this year after serving 40 years representing the Montrose area on Angus Council.
