Restoration Of Lower Northwater Bridge

The first phase of restoration work on the A92 Lower Northwater Bridge over the river North Esk is programmed to finish later this month.

This will allow the removal of the temporary barrier and the traffic lights from the bridge.

To allow the removal of the barrier, a short road closure will take place on Sunday morning (16 December). Signposting will be in place to warn motorists at the time.

As the bridge is an A listed structure the extent of the work has been approved by Historic Scotland, who are providing a 25% grant towards eligible costs with Angus and Aberdeenshire Councils paying for the remaining costs equally. The value of the works to be carried out by Makers UK Ltd is approximately £700,000.

The second phase of works is programmed to begin in June 2008 and be completed in November 2008. Similar traffic management will be required for that phase and further information will be available nearer the time.

Angus and Aberdeenshire councils would like to thank bridge users for their patience and understanding during this project.
