The Meffan’s Christmas Cracker!

The Xmas Extravaganza at the Meffan in Forfar is in full swing and visitors have been flocking to see the feast of artworks on display in the ever popular festive exhibition.

There were almost 300 entries to this year’s show which made judging a very difficult task. However, the artists who impressed the judging panel the most this year were Peter Flynn, Morag Muir and Helen Whamond who were awarded prizes by Angus Council, and Meg Manson who received a framing voucher sponsored by Canvas Art in Forfar.

This year the Extravaganza had an added attraction in the shape of The Meffan’s Christmas Cracker, where visitors were asked to cast a vote for their favourite artwork in the show.

Voting was brisk right up until the closing date of Saturday 15 December, when the polling boxes were closed and the votes counted. The artwork voted the Meffan’s Christmas Cracker was AH109 Mary Newton by Jim Dunbar, who wins a bottle of malt and has nominated The Scottish Artists’ Benevolent Association to receive a charitable donation of £100.

In addition, all voting papers were put into a draw and the first name out of the hat was Lynne Devine from Forfar who wins a bottle of fine wine.

The Xmas Extravaganza continues until 5 January, so there is still time to visit the gallery and see the winning works of art in person. All the artworks on display are for sale, so a trip to The Meffan could also be a solution to any last minute Christmas shopping problems.

The Meffan, 20 West High Street, Forfar is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, but will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the 1 and 2 January.
