Webster Theatre unveils summer and autumn programme

The Webster Theatre, opened in January after a multi-million pound refurbishment, is set to build on the success of its first months by presenting a varied programme of events during the summer and autumn months. The season will begin with an established Angus favourite, The Hairst.

The Hairst is the Scots word for harvest and the very best of local, national and international performers have been drawn together for Angus’ own harvest festival.

From this year it is intended to host most of the staged events at the Webster Theatre, although the opening event will be held at the Reid Hall in Forfar with Scottish Ballet performing their summer season programme on 8 July.

This year, Angus is developing a continuing partnership with the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong performing at the Webster on August 6 and dance groups from Belgium and Georgia taking to the stage on 2 August.

Celebrating Scottish talent, the Webster hosts four Tuesdays of Ronnie Coburn’s Breath of Scotland from 22 July with guest stars The Tartan Lads and, in their 50th year in showbiz, Tom and Jack - The Alexander Brothers.

Popular stars of the X Factor in 2006, the MacDonald Brothers, will appear at the Webster Theatre on 8 August.

The heartbeat of The Hairst, the Saturday Skirls and the Hairst Sessions are traditional music events which are free and run from 8 July to 24 August. The Saturday Skirls are seven open air lunchtime performances in town centres. The 21 Hairst sessions take place in pubs and hotels throughout Angus on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Over the Rainbow, the Eva Cassidy story; Les Misérables, performed by Angus Musical Youth Theatre; One Giant Leap, a theatrical event describing the story of mankind’s struggle to understand the universe and Beyond the Void, a lecture by accomplished mountaineer Simon Yates.
