New Exhibition Goes On Show At Montrose Museum
The latest show in Montrose Museum's gallery is an exhibition by Edinburgh artist Jenny Smith entitled ‘Inscribe’.
Jenny’s work in inspired by memory and a sense of place. Her work is subtle, pared down and meditative, yet contains unexpected surprises when viewed in close proximity. She is particularly interested in the space where traditional hand rendered processes and new digital media meet.
In this exhibition she is exhibiting new laser drawings, artists books and a video piece that chart this new direction in her work, alongside earlier seminal pieces that contextualise this new development.
Jenny Smith gained a first class degree in Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1993 and an MA in Multi Disciplinary Print from UWE Bristol in 2007. Her work is shown both nationally and internationally and she has won several awards, including the Royal Scottish Academy Award for Painting and the Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy Artist Bursary with which she went on a research visit to Japan. She has undertaken a number of international residencies and research visits that have included exhibiting in Berlin and being awarded the Guest studio at Stitching Studios in Leiden, Holland.
Jenny’s work is held in numerous public collections including a recent acquisition by the Tate Gallery in London, Scottish Amicable, British Midland (Edinburgh Airport), ASK PLC, Leel and the Inland Revenue. Her work is also held in private collections in Hong Kong, New York, Scotland, Sweden, Italy, England, Finland and Germany.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 4 July and runs until Saturday 2 August.
