Illicit Tobacco Sales Targeted
Angus Council is to step up its enforcement of tobacco sales legislation.
The council's Infrastructure Services Committee (Tuesday 26 August) agreed to appoint a new trading standards officer for three years to kick start a new tobacco sales enforcement regime.
The council is to receive £35k each year for the next three years, its share of a £1.5m Scottish Government pot, to address better enforcement of tobacco sales and tackle illicit sales of tobacco.
Committee Convener David May welcomed the injection of government funding saying: "The additional funding will allow us to really focus our enforcement activities.
"The additional member of staff will give us extra capacity to encourage good practice by retailers and will also help us tackle illicit sales of tobacco
"All of this contributes to more responsible trading to ensure compliance with the legislation governing tobacco sales."
