New Home For David Waterson Art Collection
The historic collection of works of art by the late David Waterson RE of Brechin are to have a permanent home in Brechin Town House once it has opened after refurbishment in 2009.
Angus Council neighbourhood services committee recently agreed to note a report on the future on the extensive collection of oils, pastels, watercolours, mezzotints and etchings by local artist David Waterson, who died in 1954.
The main collection of his works was donated to the old Brechin Town council in 1956 by his widow, and his sisters paid for the cost of framing the artworks. Since then, the paintings have been in the care of subsequent local authorities and displayed in various locations in Brechin, Arbroath and Montrose for the interest of the public.
All the works have been digitally photographed and documented in the Brechin Town House Museum collection.
Convener of neighbourhood services Jim Millar said: "When the complete Waterson collection was exhibited in Brechin Town House museum from September 2007 until January this year, it attracted more than 1500 visitors.
"We are delighted that this collection will not only find a permanent home in the renovated Brechin Town House after it is renovated next year, but that it will soon also be accessible to those who wish to view it online."
