Restoration Of Lower Northwater Bridge
Motorists are being alerted to a road closure as the latest phase of the repair works to the A 92 Lower Northwater Bridge over the River North Esk comes to an end.
Masonry repair works to the outside faces of the second river arch on the bridge are programmed to finish on Friday 10 October.
To allow the removal of the existing barrier and gantry supports, a road closure will take place between 7.30am on Saturday 11 October and 8.30pm on Sunday 12 October. Signposting will be in place to warn motorists at the time.
During this period the contractors Makers UK Ltd will accommodate all emergency vehicles. A number of buses will also be able to cross the bridge whilst others will be diverted. Passengers should contact Stagecoach/Bluebird or M W Nicoll for further information.
The contractor will continue to use the scaffolding to carry out work on the bridge until completion at the beginning of November. A final short road closure will be required at the end of the works period and further information will be available nearer the time.
Angus and Aberdeenshire Councils would like to thank bridge users for their patience and understanding during this project.
As the bridge is an A listed structure the extent of the work has been approved by Historic Scotland, who are providing a 25% grant towards eligible costs with Angus and Aberdeenshire Councils paying for the remaining costs equally. The value of the works to be carried out by Makers UK Ltd is approximately £700,000.
