Yellow Pages Recycling Comes To Angus

It's now even easier for Angus residents to recycle old Yellow Pages directories.

Due to a change in the way the directories are produced, paper mills in the UK now accept Yellow Pages as part of the recycling mix.

This means householders can put old directories out for collection via their green kerbside box or at newspaper banks at the recycling centres.

To spread the recycling message, Kirk the woodland creature that makes learning about recycling and the environment fun for children, visited Lochside Primary School on Wednesday 22 October to tell the children that they can now put old Yellow Pages in their green kerbside box at home.

In previous years, Angus schools have been successful in the Yellow Woods Challenge to increase the recycling of Yellow Pages by bringing them into school. Over the years local schools have won a variety of cash prizes in the challenge for collecting the most directories per pupil.

For every pound awarded to schools by Yellow Pages, a matching pound was given to the Woodland Trust to help keep the UK's native woodland alive.

Infrastructure Services Vice-Convener David Fairweather said: "I would like to thank all the schools in Angus who have taken part in the challenge over the past six years and helped to recycle as many Yellow Pages as possible. It is encouraging that so many of our young people understand the importance of caring for the environment and woodland. Now that it's even easier to recycle old yellow pages by putting them in the green kerbside box, I hope Angus residents will keep up the good work which has been carried out by these young people."
