The Angus Larder
Angus is a fabulous place to eat and drink and this is celebrated in an exciting new free publication, Angus Larder.
This handy-sized guide to the county's fabulous fresh produce, high quality meat, fish and game and world-renowned local delicacies such as Arbroath Smokies and Forfar Bridies was launched today (Friday) by the council's economic development spokesperson councillor Sheila Hands.
"Fresh, local, high quality, seasonal ingredients are one of the many bonuses of living in Angus," said councillor Hands.
"Whether cooking at home or eating out, there's no shortage of choice when it comes to first class food and drink. This free guide, as well as providing lots of information to help those who live here enjoy food grown, made, created and landed in Angus will also encourage people to visit our county and experience just how good Angus tastes!"
The Angus Larder has been developed by Angus Council in partnership with The List, whose team of writers travelled across the county researching the very best of Angus produce. As a result, the 48-pages of the Angus Larder are packed full of information about the food and drink of Angus, including features about Angus asparagus, wild salmon and jam, a listing of the best food shops, butchers, fishmongers and farm shops and an independent guide to restaurants, bistros, cafés and takeaways with local fare on the menu.
Councillor Hands explained that the Angus Larder is an important element of the Taste of Angus campaign, a new project established by Angus Council to raise awareness locally and nationally of the high quality of Angus' fresh, local produce and the top quality food and drink available throughout the county.
"The Angus Larder is a fabulous and highly effective showcase for our county's food and drink producers, eateries and retailers," continued councillor Hands. "It highlights just how lucky we are to have on our doorstep such a range of locally distinctive food, traditional Scottish dishes and, of course, fresh, top quality produce such as Angus Soft Fruits' wonderful strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Angus must be one of the tastiest places in Scotland!"
Angus Larder will be available at and is currently being distributed to leisure centres, ACCESS offices, libraries and tourist attractions across Angus, Dundee, Perthshire, Aberdeenshire and Fife or download from www.atasteofangus.com. A Taste of Angus is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Lowlands and Uplands Scotland Programme 2007-2013 as part of the Rural Tourism Business Support project - a partnership of organisations operating within the East of Scotland seeking to improve the region's tourism product through a focus on key sectors.
