Praise For War Memorial Gardens
Angus has achieved success in the Royal British Legion Scotland annual judging of war memorials, with the Carmyllie memorial being chosen as national winner in the category of Satellite War Memorial with garden.
Representatives of Carnoustie Royal British Legion Scotland and Angus Council parks service attended the award ceremony in Edinburgh recently, when they received a rose bowl trophy for the Carmyllie memorial.
Monifieth war memorial received a very highly commended in the Large Community War Memorial with garden category, dropping only 1.5 points overall on the inspection.
Carnoustie War Memorial also received very highly commended in the Champion of Champions category.
Convener of Neighbourhood Services Councillor Donald Morrison, praised the success, saying: “These achievements show the efforts our staff make in assisting local Royal British Legion Scotland communities who enter these competitions, and I congratulate everyone involved.
“The war memorial gardens not only act as a visual tribute to those people who have fallen in service of their country, but also enhance the appearance of our towns and villages.”
