Photography Exhibition Marks Centre Refurbishment
A photography exhibition goes on display today, Monday 29 October, to mark the recent refurbishment of Angus Council’s Social Work and Health’s Strathmore Centre in Forfar.
The centre provides help and support to children and young people who have physical and learning disabilities, including family support, residential short breaks and an outreach service that promotes further independent living within the community. The improvements include a user- friendly and accessible kitchen, to help children and young people develop independent living skills such as washing the dishes, cooking and baking.
The children and young people at the centre have also recently been involved in an artwork project that has led to a photography display in the lounge and hall. This can viewed by staff and family members of the children and young people who attend the centre.
Robert Peat, Director of Social Work and Health stated: “The improvements made recently to the centre offer the children more comfort when staying at the centre and the opportunity to develop their independent living skills. We have a programme at the centre that actively encourages children’s involvement within the wider community. This is something that is valued by families as they witness their child grow and develop in a most positive manner”.
Councillor Glennis Middleton, Convener of Social Work and Health commented: “The improvements made to the centre are very impressive and I am pleased to see that the improvements have increased the level of care and support that we can offer to children when they come to the centre for their much needed respite care”.
Councillor Middleton continued: “I am most impressed by the recent photography and media project with which the children and young people have been involved. The results seen here today at the centre are testimony to their constructive involvement in the project and will leave lasting memories of their time at Strathmore Centre. I would like to congratulate everyone involved”.
