Community And Creative Stars?
WHO are the stars in your community?
The organisers of the Angus Achievers Awards 2001 want to know. They want to hear about the scores of individuals and organisations whose contribution to Angus deserves to be celebrated.
Jim Coull of Angus Housing Association, sponsor of the community awards thinks its time to shout about these unsung heroes. "Last year's winner Tealing Millennium Group exemplified what this award is all about. They brought together people from all walks of life for their photographic exhibition and booklet, re-energising community spirit and at the same time promoted their village and the wider area in local and national media.
"There are so many people in Angus, just like those in Tealing, whose contribution to our communities should be celebrated. We're delighted to be supporting the awards once again and I look forward to hearing about all of those individuals and organisations who deserve wider recognition, both for themselves and for Angus."
Nominations are also invited from Angus' vibrant arts sector for the new Creative Angus Award. Sponsored by the Angus Digital Media Centre (ADMC) this new category has been created to celebrate the creative culture of the county, recognising the artistic achievements of those involved in mediums as diverse as the visual arts, multi media, performance and music.
Company chairman Ian McMillan said ADMC welcomed the opportunity to sponsor the Creative Angus Award. "One of the aims of the new media centre is the promotion and nurturing of the creative sector in Angus, encompassing an array of activity from visual art and music to web design and film making.
"The creative industries in Scotland are riding high at the moment and in Angus we have a wealth of artistic talent which deserves recognition and the opportunity to showcase their achievements on a wider stage.
"This new Creative Angus Award accommodates and promotes a broad spectrum of artistic activity and we at ADMC are delighted to sponsor it." Three finalists will be selected from each category with the six winners, announced at the award ceremony on 30 November, receiving a specially commissioned award and £500 (in the Aspiring Youth category the winner will receive an Achievers Award + £300 and the two runners-up will receive £100).
