A90 GLAMIS & KIRRIEMUIR JUNCTIONS

Angus Council has invited four companies to tender for the work to construct grade separated junctions on the A90 at the Glamis and Kirriemuir junctions.

The council is acting in its capacity as agent for the Scottish Executive, which is funding the long awaited work as part of its trunk road improvement works.

Roads Convener Sandy West welcomed this latest step saying:

“This council and our predecessors have lobbied the Scottish Office, and more recently the Scottish Executive, for many, many years to have grade separated junctions created at these junctions and I am delighted to see real progress with this project at last.

“The new junctions are long overdue but once constructed will vastly improve the road safety at what had unfortunately become accident blackspots.

“As a trunk road the A90 remains in the ownership and management of the Scottish Executive but for this project Angus Council will be acting as the Executive’s agent - engaging the contractor and supervising the works on site.

“We’ve already had to wait too long for these essential junctions, so Angus Council will be doing its utmost to ensure there are no further delays.”

The cost of the junction improvements will be fully funded by the Scottish Executive. Tenders are due to be returned by 15 February 2002 and it is anticipated that following assessment of the designs and costs, work should start on site in June 2002.
