A92 - Minister's Decision Welcomed
Angus Council’s Roads Convener formally welcomed the Scottish Executive's decision regarding the Public Local Inquiry (PLI) relating to the dualling of the A92.
Convener Sandy West said he was delighted with the successful outcome of the PLI as it allowed Angus Council to progress the project to the next stage, the tendering process.
"The PLI was the culmination of the various statutory procedures which must take place with all major public engineering projects. These can take a frustratingly long period of time but now that they are complete we can get on with tendering process for this vital and long awaited development."
In her report the Scottish Executive's Reporter said, "I am entirely satisfied that the scheme now pursued by the two councils [Angus and Dundee City] is justified and desirable in principle; that it would achieve its objectives in terms of providing significant benefit in terms of road safety; improved journey time reliability; and more appropriate distribution of traffic on the local road network."
Councillor West said the council would now be pulling out all the stops and urged all those involved to get fully behind the scheme and help bring it to the earliest fruition.
"The residents of Angus have waited long enough for this project. In June 1996 the fledgling Angus Council bid for Challenge Funding from the government to support the project, now more than five years down the line we have the green light from the Executive to proceed.
"This is a major milestone in this important project and one which is to be welcomed."
Angus Council will now proceed with the compulsory purchase orders and other necessary land and orders. A further report will be brought forward to the Council’s Policy & Resources Committee in February regarding the tendering process.
