Food Hazard Warning
A food hazard warning has been issued in Angus regarding the sale of Chinese honey.
The category D warning has been received from the Food Standards Agency following the discovery of traces of an antibiotic in the honey.
As a result all jars of Chinese and blended honey (unless shown not to be of Chinese origin) are being withdrawn from sale.
Although shops are being advised to withdraw Chinese honey from their shelves, the agency believes the risk to public health is very small and consumers who have bought jars of honey can continue to eat them.
This advice also applies to other foods that contain honey, where the risk is even lower.
