State of the Angus environment

The state of the Angus environment is to be the hot topic for debate at a special seminar in Arbroath on 31 May.

The seminar will explore four specific themes: resource efficiency, protecting the water in and around Angus, protecting and enjoying the natural environment and local character with invited expert speakers leading the open discussions.

Council leader Rob Murray said the seminar was an important follow-up to the 'Sustainable Angus' millennium debate.
"The initial debate informed the production of the Local Agenda 21 Strategy for Angus, exploring the ecological challenges we face and what each of us can do to protect and sustain the local and global environment.

"This second seminar gives us the opportunity to discuss some of the feedback received about the draft Angus LA21 strategy and open up what we hope will be an ongoing debate about the 'State of the Angus Environment'.

Councillor Murray concluded by saying:
"The 10year vision set out in the Angus Community Plan has Sustainable Development as one of its three underlying principles. We are now moving to set up a small group to establish ways to take this important agenda forward."

The seminar has been organised by Angus Council’s Environment Strategy Group and it is envisaged that it will become an annual event to report on the state of the environment in the county.

Community groups, various agencies, community councils and businesses have all been invited to attend and any interested member of the public is invited to book their place. Places are limited for the one-day event, which takes place at Angus Conference Centre in Arbroath on 31 May, so anyone interested in going along should contact Angus Council on (01307) 473573 to make a reservation.
