Mid Links Restoration Plans To Go On Display

The Phase 2 proposals for the restoration of the Mid Links will be on display in Montrose Library next week.

The long awaited restoration of the Mid Links is now reaching the final stage with phase 2 of the project now out to formal planning consultation. The 21-day consultation period ends on Friday 14 June and the matter will then be passed to the Scottish Executive for consideration.

The proposed work includes the restoration of Churchyard Walk, Montrose Academy frontage and the Deans Lamp.

Local councillor Bill Crowe said he was delighted with the detail contained in the proposals.

“The attention to detail and authenticity of the restoration project is evident in the plans and I am particularly please to see the inclusion of Churchyard Walk in the proposals. I would encourage local people to have a look at the plans while they are on display in the library next week. It is an ambitious but ultimately rewarding project and is a credit to all involved as a restored Mid Links will greatly enhance the town for local people as well as visitors.

“We expect to hear the outcome of this latest phase by the end of the summer. With Scottish Executive approval we can then finalise the plans and work should be able to start on site around next September with completion anticipated by the Summer of 2004.”
