Community Alarm Upgrade Welcomed
The Community Alarm Service used by over 3,000 people in Angus is being upgraded.
The move to upgrade the existing computer control system was welcomed by social work convener Glennis Middleton.
Speaking at the Social Work Committee (Tuesday 19 November) Councillor Middleton said the existing community alarm system operated to a high standard and enjoyed a high degree of customer satisfaction. "The scheme is held in very high regard and offers older and more vulnerable people access to support and help in any emergency, giving them greater confidence to live at home."
"However the existing computer software system is nearing the end of its useful life so the council has decided to upgrade it to give us more reliability and greater capacity. The new software has improved functions, will give us better management information and has enhanced capacity for new technology to help us support people to live at home.
"We are also taking the opportunity to introduce a computer based lone worker monitoring system using the Community Alarm control room facilities. The new handset system will help us to improve the personal safety of staff working in remote or vulnerable situations."
The cost of upgrading the Community Alarm software system is £50,495.
