Christmas Cards At The Signal Tower
A fascinating collection of Christmas cards has gone on display for the first time at Arbroath’s Signal Tower Museum.
The unique collection of humorous Christmas greetings cards were specially made for the Webster family to send their best wishes to family and friends.
The cards, which have been generously donated to the museum, date from 1951 to 1970, and the illustrations are inspired by the news of that particular year.
The wonderful illustrations include Two Old Campaigners, featuring a drawing of Churchill and Santa. Churchill was campaigning for re-election to Prime Minister and was successful in 1952.
In 1954, following floods in Arbroath, the Websters sent a card showing Santa rowing through flooded streets.
An illustration of Santa and reindeer flying into space commemorates the 1957 launch of Sputnik 1 and 2 USSR satellites.
These and many more from the charming collection are on display in the museum until Twelfth night.
Also, coming up at the Signal Tower is a drop in day on Saturday 14 December - come along to the museum during the day and make Christmas cards and gift boxes to send to your friends and family.
