£10,000 Donation sinks in!

AS part of the GlaxoSmithKline Montrose site's 50th Anniversary celebrations a donation has been made to Angus Council to help with the refurbishment of Montrose Town Hall.

The donation of £10,000 will be used to provide a much-needed refreshment area, with a bartop, gantry, the provision of washing-up facilities with added running water and sinks and the modernisation of part of the kitchen.

The town hall, which is used by a wide range of the community for everything from carpet bowls, amateur dramatics and youth groups to full-blown ceilidhs, will now be able to cater for various refreshment and provision needs.

Tom Mahon, GSK Montrose Site Director, commented: "It was felt that a contribution for the whole community would be an excellent way to mark the 50th anniversary of our site and when the town hall was suggested it was seen as the perfect way to do this. The enhanced facilities will be enjoyed by many different sections of the local community and it is hoped that the new facility will encourage even further use of the town hall."

Councillor Bill Crowe, local member and Vice Convener of Recreation and Cultural Services commented:"I am delighted with this public-spirited donation by GlaxoSmithKline who have an excellent track record of contributing to the community needs of Montrose. Angus Council is committed to improving Montrose Town Hall and the upgrading of the catering facilities will benefit all hall users."

Angus Council recently carried out a survey of all its halls, and an update on the situation at Montrose Town Hall will be the subject of a presentation to Montrose Area Forum on Tuesday 4 March at 7.30pm in Montrose Academy.
