Medieval Sculptures Museum Guide

Museum visitors in Angus can now enjoy an even better insight into the Pictish and early Christian sculptures housed in museums across the county.

'Medieval Sculpture in Angus Council Museums' is a partnership publication from Angus Council and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS. Lavishly illustrated by the commission's John Borland, the accompanying text is written by the Council’s cultural service manager, Norman Atkinson.

The publication is an illustrated catalogue of the Pictish and early Christian sculptures located in the various museums in Angus, including the very important collection in the Meffan in Forfar.

Joy Mowatt, convener of the Council’s environmental and leisure services committee, said: "This is an attractive and informative publication on our Pictish heritage in Angus, which I am sure will prove both popular and useful to visitors to our museums and Pictavia. Angus has a superb collection of Pictish stones, and this is another valuable addition to our initiatives to market these unique visitor attractions."
