Go Ahead Angus Inventors in National Final
A Monifieth primary school has once again reached the national final of the Be An Inventor Challenge.
Four budding inventors from Seaview Primary have emulated the success of previous teams and taken the school through to the final for a record third time.
Flying the flag for Angus and Tayside are TriStick Ltd., otherwise known as Seaview's P7 pupils Gary Coull, Abdul Ahmad, Connor Black and Ewan MacMillan. Along with their teacher Maureen Cameron they travel to Glasgow Science Centre tomorrow (10 June 2003) for the 2003 grand final.
Their invention is a Tri Wheel Stick, an adaptation of a traditional walking aid that comes complete with a sensor activated torch, tracking device and alarm bell.
Be An Inventor is an annual challenge designed to stimulate primary pupils to invent a new product that has the potential to be sold in the market place. It also helps to develop teamwork, investigation, logical thinking and entrepreneurial skills in pupils.
Angus Ahead, the county's marketing campaign is sponsoring the pupil's bid to win the competition.
"Seaview Primary is certainly flying the flag for Angus at this competition and Angus Ahead is pleased to support them in their efforts", said Merlyn Dunn, Angus Ahead Marketing officer.
The Seaview team beat off competition from Tayside and Angus schools at a regional heat held in Arbroath last month and now competes with the other regional finalists for the £1,000 top prize.
