New Foster Carers Handbook

A new foster carers handbook has been produced to provide updated advice and guidance to Angus foster carers.

The new handbook, produced by Angus Council, provides carers with updated guidelines, which take account of changes in legislation and foster care practice.

Social Work & Health convener Glennis Middleton said Angus was fortunate to have a committed group of foster carers.

“Angus foster carers provide a high quality of care to children who, for one reason or another, are unable to stay with their own families.

“Foster carers are not only working with social workers but also with a range of other services including schools, health services and the Children’s Hearing system. This practical handbook provides clear and up to date information to help them manage the range of tasks they carry out.”

Councillor Middleton said there had been some significant changes since the last handbook was produced six years ago. “The latest edition includes details of legal processes and advice on meeting the needs of children in placement and sets out the financial, practical and personal support that foster carers can expect from the council.”

Angus currently has just over 50 foster carers with around 100 children in foster placements at any one time. The council’s family placement team would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in finding out how to become involved. Contact the team at 01241 435078.
