Angus Community Council Bi-Annual Meeting

Angus Council met with representatives of each of the county’s community councils on Thursday 11 December.

The representatives of all of the county’s community councils meet with the council twice a year to discuss issues of shared interest but this will be the first meeting since the new community councils were selected in October.

The meeting is taking place at Town & County hall and a number of topics are on the agenda including an update on community planning and news from the Angus Ahead campaign.

Induction training for new community councillors will also be discussed along with the policy statement on the council’s relationship with community councils and a review of the current good practice arrangements.

Angus Provost Bill Middleton, who opened the meeting, said: “The purpose of these meetings is to allow an exchange of views on matters of general concern to community councils as well as affording an opportunity to Angus Council to report on policy initiatives and other matters of concern to the community councils. It also, of course, provides the opportunity for all Angus Community Councillors to come together.

“We have also taken the opportunity to recognise and thank those community councilors who have given 20 years service. Community councils have and will continue to make a valuable contribution to the development of the Angus community and this contribution is, of course, very much dependant on individual members of a community council giving freely of their time and talents.”

There are still vacancies on some of the area’s community councils, and local people are urged to consider becoming involved in their local body. More information on community councils is available on the council’s web site at www.angus.gov.uk/commcouncil, or by calling ACCESS Line on 08452 777 778.
