New Sudan 1 Food Warnings

Two new food warnings have been issued regarding products contaminated with the illegal dye Sudan 1.

The alerts have been issued by the Food Standards Agency on two brands of tandoori masala and a spice mix.

Both Chenab Supreme Quality Tandoori Masala and Supreme Tandoori Masala have been found to be contaminated with the illegal dye, Sudan 1.

Three sizes of Chenab Tandoori Masala have been withdrawn with a best before date of August 2006. 1kg Supreme Tandoori Masala with a best before date of September 2005 has also been withdrawn.

The other produce affected is Laziza International Pasanda Masala with Garlic/Ginger Spice Mix, imported by Opulent Foods Company Ltd.

The product was distributed by Opulent Foods Company Ltd and has been on sale in various retail outlets in the United Kingdom.

The company is believed to have undertaken a trade withdrawal of affected product in 100g packets - with Best Before End date of October 2005 and Lot Code 2523026. No other Laziza International brand products are known to be affected.

Angus Council environmental and consumer protection warn any consumers and traders who may have any of these items to dispose of them.
