Montrose Partnership AGM

The AGM of the Montrose Partnership takes place on 24 March at The Links Hotel, Montrose, marking the end of its second successful year.

Dr Tony Sutton has led the partnership since its establishment but will step down as chair at the AGM after two years in office.

Civic pride is the main topic for the evening, with outline proposals for a Montrose Civic Pride Campaign being presented by Graham Stephen of Montrose Community Council. Guest speaker Euna Scott, the principal environmental initiatives officer with Perth and Kinross Council, will provide an insight into the 'Pride In Perth' Campaign.

The new 2004 'Destination Montrose' brochure will also be launched at the AGM. Now onto its third edition the partnership is confident that it will be as successful as its predecessors and with funding once again provided by advertisers the brochure is this year self-financing. The content includes the history of the area, places to visit, eat and stay and also local events. The brochure will be distributed widely with the hope of attracting visitors to the town from the surrounding area and further afield.

A number of short and longer term projects have been progressed by partners during the past year. These include, the production of the annual 'Destination Montrose' brochure, the introduction of a voucher scheme offering incentives to shop locally, further development of the Montrose community website (www.montrose.org.uk) with the Montrose Society and the commissioning of a promotional video of Montrose in conjunction with The Montrose Heritage Trust and Angus Council.

The partnership's plans for 2004 onwards include the establishment in the spring of a monthly Farmers Market, the launch of the Montrose Civic Pride campaign, and a series of events such as books and antiques fairs and arts exhibitions.

The partnership is always keen to seek the views of all areas of the community, including residents and visitors alike and would very much welcome any suggestions and ideas. Anyone who is interested in the work of the partnership or would like to become involved is invited to come along to the meeting on Wednesday 24 March, 6.30pm at the Links Hotel, Montrose or alternatively contact the current secretary Eileen Jackson, on 01307 473786, e-mail jacksone@angus.gov.uk
