Carnoustie Coastal Protection Complete
CARNOUSTIE'S new promenade and coastal protection scheme are now officially open. The completion of the £1.3m coastal protection works at Carnoustie was marked with an official topping out ceremony on Tuesday (15 June 2004).
Angus Council promoted the new coast protection scheme in 2003 to replace the former protection measures that had come to the end of their useful life.
In declaring the scheme open the Provost of Angus Bill Middleton said: "I am sure everyone will agree that this represents a very significant improvement in the area and affords long term protection to this part of Carnoustie links from the effects of coastal erosion."
Provost Middleton said that with the summer season approaching he was sure that most would agree that it was an excellent project, which would be appreciated by many people for years to come. "The excellent landscaping behind the walling together with the seating and viewing areas which have been provided adds to the overall attractiveness of the area. Together with the beach ramp accesses I am sure that the residents and other visitors to this part of the Angus coast will benefit greatly from the access to the natural amenities which these works now ensure for years to come."
Angus Council passed on its thanks to people in the area for their patience during the past nine months while the works were underway. The contractor for the scheme was Torith Ltd.
