Online Angus
Information on all aspects Angus life will soon just be a click away.
A new web portal, www.angusahead.com, is being launched early next year to showcase the outstanding range of activities and attractions the county can offer, from the challenges of championship golf and walking the glens to the fascinations of castles, abbey and ancient standing stones.
The portal, which is being developed by Angus Council in association with Angus & Dundee Tourist Board, aims to develop the Angus economy through the promotion of the county's visitor attractions, business opportunities and excellent quality of life.
As well as being a mine of information for visitors and residents the portal will also present the economic benefits of investing in Angus - encouraging inward investment and trade development, with links to information on commercial and industrial property and business support services.
The £160,000 contract to develop this important project has been awarded to Tayside-based software house C(2) Software, with the graphic design of the portal sub-contracted to Angus based consultants Sunsol.
Angus Council's Infrastructure Services convener David Selfridge said: "The development of a single online gateway to Angus, to showcase the county's attractions and investment opportunities, has been the council's objective for some time.
"We are confident that in C(2) and Sunsol we have the right companies on board to help us deliver this important project for Angus. The combination of technical expertise and design creativity they offer will help us develop a portal which will enhance Angus' image with visitors and promote the county as a location for new investment."
C(2) is building the portal using their market leading 'activedition' web content management tools, which are being used by government, not-for-profit and commercial organisations for creating, maintaining and controlling web content.
"I think our solution won because it is extremely easy to use and provides a wide range of powerful features. Non-technical users can quickly update web content themselves without any programming or design skills and this was extremely attractive to the council," said Finlay Carmichael, Managing Director, C(2).
The three-year contract was won by C(2) following a rigorous tendering process which attracted interest from over 100 software organisations.
